Yes, this is a home that inspires. Once occupied by the poet John Heath Stubbs (his ode, ‘A Crow In Bayswater’ was penned in the sitting room) Artesian Road is a home that speaks to the heart. High ceilings, delicate cornicing and original sash windows will leave you feeling very much a part of London history. But it’s the interiors of this home that really sing, the scrumptious floral cushions, the heaps of books, the walls bearing an extraordinary collection of British art. So bring your notebook, if you have literary yearnings, Artesian Road is the place to indulge them.

The sweetest thing

Your hostess is one of London’s brightest young things. She moved from Fulham to Notting Hill a couple of years ago and lost no time in making Artesian Road her own. She works as an art consultant and collector, and uses her home as a showcase for her nicest pieces.

Tickled pink

The front door opens onto the main living space of Artesian Road, a, bright space lit with sunshine from the enormous original window. From the cool marble of the fireplace to the brushed cotton of the couch, every surface is feminine and tactile. Leaf through one of your host’s many books, lift the Indian throw from the TV, or just watch the fairy lights twinkling in the grate while you sip a soothing cup of cocoa. You’ve some stunning artwork to admire, while the bijoux kitchen has all you need to throw together a tasty supper.

The corridor’s papered in sage florals and you’ll find a miniature work station beneath the stairs. The pale marble bathroom looks on to a pint sized courtyard below, and, once you’ve finished drying yourself on one of our gorgeously fluffy towels, you’ll find the bedroom ready to welcome you. The four poster bed is kingsized and swathed in the crispest white linen. Fold the shutters, draw the curtains and dream romantic dreams.

Notting Hill offers a London experience like no other. Hop onto a Boris Bike and pedal down to Hyde Park, or over to forage for some vintage Pucci in Portobello Road Market. If you’re a film buff then you’ll want to drop in on The Electric Cinema, while foodies must check out the nearby Oak Restaurant; you hostess assures us they serve the best pizzas in town. You’ve a vast array of boutiques, cafes, bars and gastropubs from which to choose, or, if you want to head into zone one, you can be there, by tube or by cab, in less than twenty minutes.
